In the last post on Home Ready Home, Mike the Gardener shared with us the 3 steps to take now for next year’s garden. I followed Mike’s advice and reviewed the notes I made regarding my last garden.
If you remember, this summer I had a garden at the mountain house. My neighbor had a neglected garden plot and we decided to work it together. He would provide the plot, tools and knowledge and I’d do the planting and weeding. It worked out well. We successfully grew potatoes, peppers, tomatoes and squash. But we also grew a ton of weeds and spent a lot of time watering.
Planning for next year’s garden, the first thing I will do differently is mulch. I’ve been doing some research over the last few days and I came across an article with a cool infographic on the benefits of gardening with mulch. Mulch not only helps suppress the weeds, it also helps to retain moisture which produces larger yields.
Below is the infographic from Fix.com showing the 6 types of mulch to use in your garden. After you take a look at it,click over to Fix.com’s article to read more about the benefits of gardening with mulch.
