Blepharoplasty

What is Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)?

Eyelid surgery, also called blepharoplasty, can dramatically improve the appearance of tired, droopy, or baggy eyes. Eyelid surgery can be performed on either the upper or lower lids (or both). Excess skin is removed from the upper lid while a combination of skin and fatty deposits are removed from the lower lid.

Am I a Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?

Ideal eyelid surgery candidates are usually more than 35 years old, in good overall health, and have realistic expectations about the surgery. Patients with insufficient tear production, circulatory disorders, cardiovascular disease, thyroid disease, diabetes, or high blood pressure may not be candidates for eyelid surgery.

To find out if you are a candidate, contact us to arrange an evaluation.

How Does Eyelid Surgery Work?

Prior to eye lid surgery, Dr. Kjar will give you specific preoperative guidelines. Carefully follow these instructions.

Eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia, meaning that you can go home the same day of the surgery. Although rare, possible complications to be aware of include temporary swelling, blurred or double vision, ectropion (drooping which can be corrected with another surgery), difficulty keeping eyes closed while sleeping, adverse reactions to anesthesia, and infection.

Any pain or discomfort after eyelid surgery can usually be lessened with prescription pain medication. Your procedure will include a consultation and services from Candessa Aesthetics at no extra cost, which will also help to improve your recovery.
