Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery, also called blepharoplasty, can dramatically improve the appearance of tired, droopy, or baggy eyes. Eyelid surgery can be performed on either the upper or lower lids (or both). Excess skin is removed from the upper lid while a combination of skin and fatty deposits are removed from the lower lid.

Ideal eyelid surgery candidates are usually more than 35 years old, in good overall health, and have realistic expectations about the surgery. Patients with insufficient tear production, circulatory disorders, cardiovascular disease, thyroid disease, diabetes, or high blood pressure may not be candidates for eyelid surgery.

Although rare, possible complications include: temporary swelling, blurred or double vision, ectropion (drooping which can be corrected with another surgery), difficulty keeping eyes closed while sleeping, adverse reactions to anesthesia, and infection.

Brow (Forehead) Lift

Brow lift surgery, also known as a forehead lift, can produce a much younger, refreshed appearance by reducing wrinkles, smoothing the forehead, and raising the upper eyelids. During this relatively simple and pain free procedure, an incision is made at the hairline. There are several types of brow lift, including an indirect skin removal technique, an indirect endoscopic technique, and a direct skin removal technique. The results of this procedure can be expected to last five to ten years. This technique also offers the benefits of limited scarring and recovery time. Dr. Kjar removes excess tissue and skin and carefully stitches the incision closed. The recovery period for a brow lift is generally one to two weeks. Forehead lift surgery rejuvenates the appearance of the entire face. Ear Surgery

Otoplasty, or cosmetic ear surgery, is another popular facial plastic surgery that can greatly enhance a patient’s appearance and self-esteem. Ear surgery can correct small, large, or protruding ears, as well as cupped, cauliflower or folded ears. The most common candidates for ear surgery are children. However, otoplasty is an excellent option for adults who suffer from large, protruding ears or stretched earlobes. Facial Implants

Facial implants are often an ideal solution for patients who want stronger features or a more balanced face. Common facial implants include chin, cheek, and lip implants, which create a more defined, contoured, and visually appealing face. Facial implants are often used in conjunction with other facial surgeries (such as rhinoplasty, facelift, or eyelid surgery) for more dramatic results. Facial implant surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis and requires one to two hours to complete.
